For a long time a problem has faced the outside event and hospitality industry.

Whilst there are ever increasing opportunities to purchase new equipment, particularly with all that the internet has to offer in this age that we live in, there hasn’t until recently been a place where the good people of these industries can easily buy and sell their used equipment.

The fundamental problem here is really two fold; the equipment used within the outdoor event industry is normally very specialist and has very little use in its “second life” except to another party in that aforementioned industry. The items tend to be both physically very large and often of very high monetary value.

As a result of this many forums for the potential sale of these second hand items are rendered some what ineffective. Opportunities to sell items on places such as eBay are limited as any potential buyer would almost certainly like to inspect the goods before considering a purchase. As these items tend to be scattered in all parts of the UK it wouldn’t always be feasible for this viewing to take place before the end of an auction period. Further limitations of the auction model would be reaching out to potential buyers as it has been noted already that these items tend to be of a specialist nature.

The type of items I refer to are:

· Large Frame and Traditional Style Marquees

· Portable Dance Floors

· Marquee Flooring (often solid wood)

· Bouncy Castles

· Mobile Trailer Toilet Units

· Large catering Ovens and Fridges

· Large quantities of banquet Chairs and Tables

These are just a few of the items that come onto the secondhand market and as you can probably imagine they would all require quite a logistical operation upon a secondhand purchase being made often involving a large van or lorry.

There does tend to be a large amount of this type of equipment in circulation as companies start up and fold, companies go into liquidation and the constant need for the larger businesses to keep their stock up to date and fresh provides a life line and a steady supply of hardware for the smaller businesses lower down the food chain.

The outdoor event industry is growing every year and as each year does pass we find an increasing number of large events particularly in the wedding industry and the festival scene, all of which means that there seems to be an everlasting supply of equipment hitting the used equipment market.

This is great for private individuals who perhaps are considering the option of buying, for example, a marquee for an event at home rather than renting one. It also means of course that they can sell it on after their event is done and dusted.

It is perceived that the demand for these of items will continue to increase in the ensuing years and that the market will remain buoyant.
