This two-part article will guide you to the interesting things that are about to happen in Rio de Janeiro this June. Let’s kick things off with a monthly that will be organized on 4th of the month.

Feira do Rio Antigo is organized monthly in Rio, where the Rua do Lavradio is transformed into an antiques market. Here, shoppers have the possibility to browse through about 100 stalls, restaurants and bars that expand their tables and chairs right on the pavement. Here is the address: Rua do Lavradio, Centro.

Next up, on June 5th is the Feira Hippie, organized weekly. This Hippie market takes place every Sunday in the Praca General Osorio in Ipanema. The tradition was initiated back in 1968 and it is a very good place where you can purchase handicrafts, paintings, musical instruments, clothes, leather and even furniture. Moving on to an annual event that in 2011 will be organized between 3 and 12 of June is the Festa do Divino Espirito Santo. It is a 10-day festival where they will crown the “Emperor”. Another annual event is the Rio Sport Show, organized this year between 14 and 16 of June. Next month, there will be important sport brands that will show off their latest equipment to sporty types and the industry people. Here is the address: Avenida Rodrigues Alves, 10.

On 17th of June this year, Rio de Janeiro will be the home of the famous Rio Marathon, which will start at 8 A.M. Known to feature one of the most beautiful routes in the entire world, the marathon starts at Recreio, passes through Barra, Sao Conrado, the exquisite beaches of Ipanema and Leblon, and crosses the finish line in Flamengo.

In Rio next month, you can enjoy the June Festival, which is an integral part of the Brazilian culture, where you can see children (along with many adults) in country-style lumberjack shirts, pigtails, straw hats and painted freckles. In addition, you can also see many interesting folkloric games and dancing alongside bonfires and fireworks throughout the entire city.

Another annual event that will be organized this June is the Good Food in Rio Festival, where you will have the opportunity to enjoy the country’s varied regional cuisine. Here, the participating restaurants will open up their kitchens to chefs from all over Brazil, and there will be lots of lip-smacking events all over Rio.

If you have never been to a gothic palace, it is highly recommended that you should go and see the Ilha Fiscal Palace, built in 1889 at the request of the king.
